Stars of America isn't your ordinary talk show. Oak Hill Christian School's fourth and fifth grade class received exclusive privileges to meet eleven top celebrities. These world-renowned stars were Christopher Columbus, Queen Isabella, John Smith, Priscilla Mullins, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the ever-stylish Dolley Madison. I had the great honor of interviewing each person. They provided me with great material for questions because they had prepared a full written report about their lives.
There were few mishaps, which inevitably occur on live television. James Madison had a naturally weak voice (since childhood), so everyone graciously moved forward to hear his words of wise reasoning.
Benjamin Franklin was slightly overcome by the sudden flash of the camera. All the celebs had never seen such a device. But these minor mishaps were overshadowed by the exemplary character (honesty, wisdom, and often a high regard for the Bible) displayed by these esteemed men and women.
Completing this project helped students to understand the steps of writing a report, become better organized, improve their writing skills, exercise creativity, and speak in front of an audience.
